GICHE Events 2026

The GICHE community met for two events in Brussels in September 2026.

GICHE workshop hosted by The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities
“Horizon Europe and Global Research Collaboration in Times of Geopolitical Fragmentation”
29 September 2026

EU Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations, Brussels

With 28 participants from across Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia, we discussed how Horizon Europe can be used even more effectively as a platform for global collaboration—especially when geopolitical fragmentation makes global cooperation harder, but also makes it even more important.

A key highlight of the agenda was an engaging dialogue with Axel Leisenberg, Policy Adviser at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD), European Commission.

Thank you to The Guild for hosting—and to all participants for their valuable contributions and insightful discussions.

The event was held under Chatham House Rules. Please visit the Member’s Area for further information.

Public event “Science and Diplomacy in Times of Disruption: How Must International Research Institutions Adapt to Continue Successful Global Science Cooperation?”

Co-organized by Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study and University of Hamburg within the framework of the “Hamburg Forum for Global Science and Policy”, in cooperation with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies

28 September 2026
