GICHE/Pilar

GICHE’s inaugural event took place on October 23–24, 2025, in Hannover, Germany,  at the Herrenhausen Palace Xplanatorium. It was structured as a 1.5-day interactive workshop.

The meeting brought together leaders from 19 major international higher education networks. Alongside networks fostering collaboration across continents, influential networks from South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe were represented. 

Under the overarching theme, “Building Innovative Networks in Complex Times: What Lies Ahead for International Collaboration in Higher Education?” the event provided a platform to explore key topics, including:

• Core values and shared responsibilities in global academic partnerships
• The role of knowledge equity, diversity, and inclusion in international collaboration 
• Innovative areas and formats of collaboration
• Strategies for fostering successful international networks in complex times

The gathering laid a strong foundation for ongoing dialogue, trustful exchange, and future joint initiatives aimed at strengthening innovative international higher education collaborations. Participants discussed actionable next steps, which are now being further coordinated.
